Discover Reboledo: Local History in the Department of Florida
Accommodation in Reboledo
Local Signage, History and a Suggested Route
In 2024, lettering bearing the town’s name was unveiled at the entrance to Reboledo: at kilometre 123 of Ruta 7, at the junction with Calle Ramón Juani, opposite the Asociación Rural de Reboledo. The unveiling links the town’s name to a precisely identified point on Ruta 7. The nearby Estancia de Reboledo offers a glimpse into another historical period.
The estancia was initially a Jesuit outpost and was connected with talks held ahead of the 1897 Peace of La Cruz. The references to the area thus bring together two different scales: a precisely named point at the town entrance and a historical connection to the events preceding the peace. If you are interested in a place’s history, this gives you a concrete reason to look beyond the local marker and explore the older regional story as well.
For further orientation, the Intendencia de Florida proposed a second tourist circuit. It was to follow Ruta 7 along the Ruta de los Caudillos, los Matreros y del Tren towards Fray Marcos, Casupá, Reboledo and Cerro Colorado. The circuit remains a proposal. When planning your trip, it is helpful to keep this in mind if you are considering Reboledo as part of a broader themed route.
When looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide whether to focus on Reboledo itself or take a broader look at the Department of Florida. If you are primarily interested in local history, focus your search on Reboledo. For other cultural or landscape themes, first decide which places and experiences you would like to include. This way, your choice of search location reflects the focus you want.
Florida: Culture, Activities and Landscapes
The wider destination of Florida offers a range of cultural, active and landscape-related themes. In Capilla del Sauce, Centro Cultural Casa de la Azotea can be visited by prior arrangement. In Fray Marcos, Senderos de Aquino offers guided walks on land and water; visits must be arranged in advance. The two examples offer different experiences: a cultural centre and guided activities in different settings. In both cases, arranging your visit in advance is part of planning.
An art project launched in 2010 in 25 de Agosto, resulting in more than 70 murals painted on the façades of over 40 houses. A different scale is represented by Catedral Basílica, Santuario Nacional Virgen de los Treinta y Tres, in the city of Florida: its bronze door was designed by José Belloni and his son Stelio. These examples show two different forms of artistic design, from numerous images on house façades to a single door designed by two sculptors.
The religious festival of Capilla San Cono also shapes the annual calendar in the Department of Florida. It takes place every year on 3 June and includes a large procession. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check the event date for the year in question.
For nature lovers, Prado Piedra Alta is a recreational area with a great variety of native and exotic plant species. Centro Recreativo Paso Severino is located on the shore of a lake formed by the dam on the Río Santa Lucía Chico. The two descriptions highlight different features: the plant diversity of a recreational area and the location of a leisure centre beside a dam-created lake.
Complejo Arquitectónico el Carrillón is located in Alejandro Gallinal. Its carillon is designed so that the bells are arranged according to a musical scale and can be played by hand or using a keyboard. This musical detail adds a focus on sound and construction to the region’s other themes. Together, the cultural, activity and landscape offerings in Florida provide a broader range of options to consider when choosing the focus of your trip.
