Trinidad: History and Plaza Flores
Accommodation in Trinidad
Trinidad can be experienced through two distinct impressions: the history of the Departamento Flores in the former railway station and Plaza Flores, with its jacaranda trees and large fountain. The museum and plaza provide a tangible setting for a stay that can combine culture and relaxation in the town. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider which of these experiences you would like to shape your stay most and choose a location to suit your own plans.
Railway station history at the museum
The Museo Histórico Departamental de Flores, named after Dr. Fernando Gutiérrez, opened on 30 July 2004 in a building constructed in 1916 that originally housed Trinidad's railway station. The building's history therefore dates back to a time when it served a different purpose from its use as a museum.
The four rooms showcase different periods in the history of the Departamento de Flores. Topics include fossilized dinosaur remains and the archaeological significance of the rock paintings in the Chamangá protected area. The exhibition thus connects different chapters in the region's history, from fossil finds to the archaeological heritage of the rock paintings.
Visiting hours for the Museo Histórico Departamental de Flores are listed as Monday to Friday, 10:00–16:30, and Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, 14:00–17:00. Check the hours before your visit. Those interested in the history of Flores can plan the museum as a cultural highlight in its own right.
Jacaranda trees and a fountain at Plaza Flores
Plaza Flores is just a few metres from the centre of Trinidad. Its wide paths are lined with jacaranda trees, which give the surroundings a bluish hue in summer. A large fountain stands in the middle; the plaza also offers space for relaxation and leisure activities.
Alongside the museum's historical themes, Trinidad also offers a place to spend some quieter time outdoors. The two experiences are distinct: the museum focuses on the past of the Departamento Flores, while the plaza, with its paths, trees, and fountain, is a place for relaxation and leisure. Which of these interests takes priority on your trip may also influence your choice of location for a suitable holiday apartment.
