Iberia – Plaza, River and Lake
Accommodation in Iberia
Iberia brings together a distinctive town centre and a landscape in which the Tahuamanu River and Lake Iberia are prominent landmarks. At the Plaza de Armas, you’ll find an unusual design: its shape resembles a shiringa seed, and a statue depicts a rubber tapper extracting latex from a shiringa tree. The lake and river ports add their own natural and water-related features to this urban setting.
Plaza and townscape
The Plaza de Armas is in the centre of Iberia. There stands a statue of a rubber tapper extracting latex from a shiringa tree (Hevea brasiliensis). The subject is specific: it shows a person extracting latex from the tree. At the same time, the plaza itself is shaped like a shiringa seed. This connects the plaza’s design and the statue through their association with the shiringa, without depicting the same thing. If you’d like to get to know the townscape as well as nature during your trip, this is a clearly identified location in the centre. Parque Shiringuero, also called El Shiringuero, is also in the town of Iberia.
These places offer different points of reference when choosing a destination: the plaza is in the town centre, while Parque Shiringuero is another place within the town. If an urban setting is important to you when choosing a holiday rental, you can consider Iberia in relation to these central landmarks.
Lake Iberia and the river landscape
Lake Iberia lies between the Tahuamanu River and the settlement of Iberia. It covers approximately 6.20 hectares and is a clear-water oxbow lake on a flood-prone terrace on the river’s left bank. These details paint a different picture from the plaza in the town centre: the lake is described by its water quality, its location by the riverbank and its approximate area. If you’re mainly considering a trip focused on nature, you can include the lake as a distinct highlight when choosing your destination.
Lake Iberia is the most important of three oxbow lakes in an area protected for nature tourism. This gives the lake a special role among these three bodies of water, without implying that the other oxbow lakes are the same. Together with its location between the river and the settlement, it offers a concrete reason to consider both the town and the landscape around Iberia when planning your trip. The plaza and the lake represent different aspects of the destination; this does not imply a shared route or a particular distance between them.
The Tahuamanu and river ports
Iberia lies on the left bank of the Tahuamanu. During the rainy season, the river is navigable by boats with a shallow draft and by boats with a capacity of 15 tonnes. This describes the river’s seasonal role for these types of boats. The Tahuamanu is therefore part of not only Iberia’s landscape but also its river transport network.
Nearby are Puerto Saboya and Puerto Portillo. Puerto Saboya is a river port on the left bank of the Tahuamanu, facing the town of Iberia. Puerto Portillo is the most-used river port; it lies in the direction of Lake Iberia and also faces the town of Iberia. The two ports thus provide different geographical points of reference: for Saboya, the left riverbank is specified, while for Portillo, the direction of Lake Iberia is given.
A holiday rental in Iberia is a suitable option if you’d like to use the town and its river and lake features as starting points for your trip. When making your choice, you can decide whether you’re more interested in the plaza and townscape, Lake Iberia or the Tahuamanu and its river ports.
