Discover Pampahuasi
Accommodation in Pampahuasi
Pampahuasi is the destination for your holiday rental search. When planning your trip, it is worth exploring the cultural and landscape highlights of Antabamba Province and Oropesa District. They range from the Huaylia tradition to highland formations and a hiking route.
Huaylia tradition in Antabamba Province
The Huaylia of Antabamba Province was declared Peru’s National Cultural Heritage on February 11, 2004. A traditional festival celebrating the birth of Jesus, it is influenced by Iberian-Spanish beliefs and customs. From December 23 to 28, Huaylia is celebrated simultaneously on streets and squares in every district of the province. This makes it not only a topic for those interested in culture, but also a clear date to keep in mind when planning a trip.
Dance forms and festival culture in Oropesa
The dancers use more than twelve different dance steps. A historic performance is also documented: in 2010, a delegation from Totora Oropesa performed acrobatic dances at a competition in Lima. Huaylia can therefore be viewed on two levels: as a festival tradition of the province and through the specific dance form described in Oropesa.
Highland landscapes and natural formations
The Aguas Termales de Killcata hot springs are located in the community of the same name in Oropesa District, south of Totora Oropesa and at an elevation of about 4,014 meters. The high-Andean landscape there is crossed by the Killcata River. The area also includes the Infiernillo formation: a pond of around 105 square meters, shaped like a volcanic crater, from which very hot water emerges. This description brings together a striking natural feature and the high-altitude river landscape without separating the two.
Another striking mountain feature is snow-capped Mallmanya, which rises to 5,210 meters. It stands southeast of Mamara in Grau Province and of Totora Oropesa in Antabamba Province. For the surrounding communities, Mallmanya is a revered Apu; they ask for its protection, especially for livestock raising and agriculture. The mountain is therefore both a landscape feature and part of local cultural significance.
Huacullo: ceremony and textile crafts
In Huacullo, in Oropesa District, the Llama Tinka is held every year in honor of alpacas and llamas. During the ceremony, people give thanks to the earth for protecting the animals from illness and accidents. Andean craftsmanship reflects another side of local culture: alpaca yarn is used to make Llikllas, ponchos, blankets, Chumpis, Chuspas, and ropes. The textiles feature llama or bird patterns; their colors vary, though they are usually black. The ceremony and the craft products represent different cultural themes—one ritual, the other material and artistic.
Hike to Catarata Fusiray
A ten-kilometer hiking trail leads from Totora Oropesa to Catarata Fusiray; the stated walking time is 45 minutes.
If you are looking for a holiday rental in Pampahuasi, you can start organizing your trip around cultural highlights, highland landscapes, or hiking. If you are especially interested in Huaylia, plan around the December festival dates; if you prefer natural scenery, you can explore the mountain and water formations described here.
