Carmen De Apicala combines local culture with regional cuisine and nature in the municipality. The Basílica Nuestra Señora del Carmen has two naves and a central bell tower; the Monumento Caballo de Santander stands in the main park. The municipality is also home to a wetland and a private holiday centre, with an ecological park nearby. When choosing your holiday apartment, consider whether local culture, nature or activities will shape your holiday.

Architecture and a monument in the main park

The two naves define the interior of the Basílica Nuestra Señora del Carmen, with its bell tower positioned centrally. These details give a concrete impression of the building’s design. The Monumento Caballo de Santander in the main park offers a very different cultural point of reference. A religious building with a described interior layout and a monument in a park thus represent two distinct ways of experiencing local culture.

A dated tourism initiative

A more recent tourism feature is the Ruta Vibra Carmelitana. It is Carmen de Apicalá’s first rural tourism product and was officially presented on May 16, 2026. If you would like to include the Ruta in your plans, check the current dates and how it will be run in advance.

Water and nature in the municipality and nearby

Cascadas la Telaraña has two waterfalls; one of them features Indigenous petroglyphs—signs carved into rock. Cascadas la Telaraña is not yet suitable for visitors. The petroglyphs also give this natural site a cultural and historical dimension, but visitor restrictions should be taken into account when planning.

Parque Nacional Del Agua, an ecological park, is located near Carmen De Apicala. It covers more than 400 hectares and has three streams with clear water. There is also a swimming pool with a sandy beach and a sandy bottom. Check current operations if you are counting on using the pool. In the municipality of Carmen de Apicalá, there is a bathing spot on Quebrada la Oloche, along the road to Mortiño, for day trips. The water destinations therefore also differ in location: the park is nearby, while the bathing spot is in the municipality.

Wetland, activities and regional cuisine

The Laguna La Gavilana wetland is located in Vereda El Charcón. A historical restoration project included reforestation and ecological information signs, among other things. Centro Vacacional Caribú is a private holiday centre in Vereda Los Medios. Its activities include ecological walks, horseback riding and sport fishing. If you plan to take part in any of these activities, check with the centre in advance.

Lechona and Tamal Tolimense are considered traditional dishes from Tolima and are associated with the town’s main restaurants and market square. The cuisine thus adds a culinary dimension to the architecture and nature themes. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can first decide whether you want to focus on local culture, regional cuisine, or nature and activities. If a private offering or the swimming pool is important to your plans, confirm participation or current operations in advance.
