Firavitoba can be explored through a range of very different themes: Gothic church architecture, cave lore, a waterfall, and a rich tradition of festivals and crafts. This gives your trip several possible focuses. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Firavitoba, you can first consider whether you would rather plan your stay around architectural history and culture or around caves and landscapes.

A church with a story of its own

The Templo de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves is designed in the Gothic style and has three naves, pointed arches, stained-glass windows, a marble floor, and a canopy. Its dimensions give the building a clear sense of scale: it is 76 meters long and 72 meters high, and its façade is 27 meters wide. Both its architectural details and the scale of the building are among its defining impressions.

Construction began in 1873. Father Ramón Ignacio Avella traveled to Paris and acquired a replica of the model of a European church there. The temple was built entirely of stone based on this design. The Paris trip and the European model add a specific historical story to its Gothic architectural features.

Cave, waterfall and spring

At Cueva del Viejo, nature and storytelling traditions meet. Local lore tells of a lake in the cave where a treasure lay in the form of a hen with her chicks. Activities at the cave include hiking, ecological walks, ecotourism, and speleology. Check current access conditions before setting out.

The Peña de las Águilas, a waterfall in a rocky gorge, lies near the destination. It is about four kilometers from town. The name is said to come from eagles that nested on the rock.

Fuente Los Alisos is also nearby. It is the most important of four water sources and is sheltered by a kiosk with a tiled roof. It once served as a communal washing place, linking a landscape feature at the spring with its former everyday use.
