Two different travel interests can be distinguished within the municipality of La Estrella: cultural history around the Casa Consistorial and nature at Laguna Encantada and in the Reserva El Romeral. Art and municipal history are reflected in cultural institutions and historical exhibitions; a 2024 municipal notice mentions hiking and birdwatching at Laguna Encantada. When planning your holiday, you can therefore first consider whether culture, nature, or a combination of the two should be the main focus.

Cultural History and Art

The Casa Consistorial is located at a northeastern corner of the main park in the municipality of La Estrella. Because of its symbolic and historical value, it is considered a reference point for La Estrella’s cultural heritage and an asset of municipal interest. Its location makes the cultural focus easy to pinpoint within the municipality.

Art history also has specific names associated with it. A 2023 announcement reported on an exhibition at the Casa Consistorial featuring works by the Diásporas art group and artists Roberto Ignacio Palomino Torres and Samuel Acosta Herrera. Until May 30, 2024, the Museo Casa Consistorial showed the exhibition “Almas atemporales,” featuring more than 30 works by Juan Guillermo Ríos. While the 2023 announcement named a group and several artists, “Almas atemporales” focused on the work of a single artist, with more than 30 pieces.

An opening announcement dated October 27, 2023, stated that the Museo Casa Consistorial MUCC would feature exhibition spaces devoted to the municipality’s history and its tangible, intangible, and cultural heritage. In 2021, the Casa de la Cultura Francisco Carrillo de Albornoz was described as a symbol of local history and a place for art. These connections range from the municipality’s history and heritage to specific artistic presentations.

Nature and Activities

A 2022 publication describes Laguna Encantada as a tourist destination visited by local residents; a municipal guide from the same year locates it in the Reserva El Romeral. A municipal notice dated April 26, 2024, mentions hiking and birdwatching at the lagoon. Two different activities are therefore highlighted at this location: walking and observing birdlife.

On April 26, 2024, the municipality announced that it had acquired 25.8 hectares of the Reserva El Romeral protected area to protect the environment. Alongside the activities mentioned at the lagoon, the Reserva’s specific environmental protection purpose is also among its themes. A municipal publication from 2022 also locates Piedra del Oro within the protected area. Hiking and birdwatching are mentioned for Laguna Encantada; Piedra del Oro is identified as another location in the Reserva.

If members of your travel group have different interests, this distinction can help with planning: for culture, you can look to the connections with the Casa Consistorial and the Casa de la Cultura; for nature, to the activities at Laguna Encantada. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in La Estrella, first consider which themes matter to your trip.
