Discover Quintero: Coast, Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Quintero
Quintero brings together different aspects of a stay: beaches and the sea, a diverse wetland within the municipality, cultural sites and guided tours. When planning your holiday, you can decide whether to focus on nature, the coast or the history of the town. The range of experiences can also help you decide what kind of surroundings you would like for your holiday apartment.
Sea, Beach and Landscape
Playa Los Enamorados lies at the foot of Parque Municipal. From there, you can access the sea and an area characterised by vegetation and tall trees. This combines a beach visit with a very different landscape from the wide dunes and wetlands in the municipality. If you want to get to know Quintero for its coastline, you can explore a variety of natural settings rather than just a single beach scene.
In the rural area of the municipality of Quintero, the landscape of Humedal de Mantagua and its associated dunes covers about 269 hectares. The wetland, dune field, beach, scrubland, plantations and native forest in ravines form part of this mosaic. The wetland is part of Chile’s biological coastal corridor and a pan-American biological corridor used by migratory birds. The varied landscape makes the area appealing to travellers who want to experience wetlands and vegetation as well as the sea.
Playa de Ritoque is also nearby. Dunes and diverse fauna and vegetation characterise the area; possible activities include surfing, walks and tours. This lets you tailor your stay to your interest in beaches, activity or landscapes, without confusing these options with the beaches in town.
Cultural Sites and Local History
Casa Museo Downey presents the Downey family heritage and the work of Juan Downey in a cultural space open to the whole community. The building was constructed in Quintero in 1935 for the family’s summer stays and later converted into a museum. An external spiral staircase leads to the roof terrace, which overlooks the sea. Architecture, family history and art come together here, offering a different way to experience Quintero than through its beaches and landscapes.
Parque Municipal Luisa Sebiré de Cousiño also has a specific history: its grounds were donated in 1943 by benefactor Luisa Sebiré de Cousiño. Playa Los Enamorados lies at the foot of the park. The park is also part of the historic Circuito Turístico Quintero Urbano, which links Casa Estación, Puntilla de Sanfuentes, Cueva del Pirata and Parque Municipal. Casa Estación was designed by architect Juan Rau and is home to the Quintero Municipal Culture and Tourism Corporation.
Guided Experiences and the Right Kind of Holiday
For a focus on urban history, the experience “Quintero, Huellas de Historia Patrimonial” takes you through Quintero’s streets and past notable buildings, important figures and local legends. “Quintero Misterioso” offers a different focus: the evening tour goes through Parque Municipal as local mysteries and stories are shared. Both experiences explore the town’s stories, but differ in their themes and in the second tour’s nighttime setting.
The guided Ruta de Playas focuses on Quintero’s beaches, including El Durazno, El Caleuche and Los Enamorados. Together with the historic tour, it offers a choice between beach themes and local history; the experiences should not be regarded as one combined route. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can start with the kind of stay you want: coast and nature, cultural sites or guided stories.
