Colbún combines the setting of two reservoirs surrounded by native forests with water sports, walking paths and experiences in the town centre. For your trip, you can focus on water and nature, or on the central square with Chilean home-style cooking. When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to ask which of these sides of Colbún appeals to you most: excursions to Balneario Machicura, Paseo Pretil or the town centre?

Water activities at Balneario Machicura

Balneario Machicura, in the municipality of the same name, has a 150-metre-long beach and a pier for non-motorised boats. You can go kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and ride water bikes there. The options range from boat trips to activities on the water. The balneario also has a children's play area and a picnic area. Stalls run by local entrepreneurs add to the facilities on site. If you are travelling with children, you can include the play area as a separate consideration in your day’s plans.

Water sports such as water skiing are available at Lakes Colbún and Machicura; kayaking is also available there. Sailing is also listed as a water sport at both lakes. This takes the focus beyond the individual facilities at the balneario to other water sports associated with the lakes. When planning your excursions, you can consider whether you would rather focus on the beach and activities at the balneario or on water sports at the lakes.

Take a walk and experience nature

Paseo Pretil Machicura is a 200-metre-long and 6.3-metre-wide pedestrian promenade. It is located on Route L-11 in front of Embalse Machicura and has benches and a viewing point overlooking the reservoir and the surrounding natural landscape. Families and tourists can walk here, enjoy the scenery, watch birds and learn about them. If you prefer getting around on foot and taking a closer look at the surroundings, this offers a different kind of outing from the water sports activities.

Colbún has two reservoirs surrounded by native forests. Embalse Machicura covers an area of 8 km². Colbún’s natural surroundings also offer the chance to see the native flora and fauna of the Maule Region. The ZOIT Lago Colbún–Rari includes parts of the municipalities of San Clemente and Colbún, which share the administrative area on the northern and southern shores of Lago Colbún. This geographical context shows that Lago Colbún is connected to areas in both municipalities.

Town centre and accommodation focus

The town centre also offers a reason to visit: Colbún’s central square invites you to take a stroll. There are places serving Chilean home-style cooking around the square. When choosing your holiday rental, you can consider whether to focus your trip on the town centre, with its square and eateries, or on nature and water experiences. These different interests give you a concrete starting point for choosing Colbún according to the kind of stay you have planned.
