San Pedro De La Paz offers travelers a wide variety of attractions: an extensive wetland, a long lagoon, a black-sand beach and a centuries-old religious tradition. Nature, water sports, fishing and culture provide concrete starting points for planning your stay.

Wetland and Lagoon Landscape

Parque Humedal Los Batros is the first wetland park in the Biobío Region and covers 22 hectares. Its paths cross the wetland, offering unobstructed views of its flora and fauna. The Laguna Grande–Humedal Los Batros complex is designated a Santuario de la Naturaleza. Laguna Chica offers a different landscape: it is elongated, covers 0.72 km² and is surrounded by vegetation-covered hills.

Water, Beach and Fishing

Rowing, windsurfing, sport fishing and other water sports take place at Laguna Chica. Playa Lomas Coloradas offers a different setting: its black sand is used for fishing and walking. Due to its steep slope and consistently strong surf, the beach is not suitable for swimming. If you enjoy spending time by the water, this distinction is important when planning your day: walking and fishing are among the activities described, but swimming is not.

The mouth of the Río Biobío is also a fishing spot, where both artisanal and recreational fishing take place. This distinguishes the activities described: sport fishing is one of the activities at Laguna Chica, while both forms of fishing are practiced at the river mouth.

Religious Heritage and Culture

The Santuario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria houses a Marian image from Spain, which was brought to Chile around 1583. For centuries, the sanctuary has been a center of religious expression in the Biobío Region. Every year on February 2, the Virgen de la Candelaria is honored there in a ceremony.

The Anfiteatro San Pedro de la Paz is a small, semicircular open-air amphitheater in Villa San Pedro. It is intended for free cultural, musical, theatrical and dance events. In the municipality of San Pedro De La Paz, Centro Cultural y Museo Comunitario Curarrehue has a permanent exhibition of various weaving techniques; since 2007, its multipurpose hall has served as a library and museum.

The annual Cruz de Mayo celebration takes place around Centro Cultural y Museo Comunitario Curarrehue, with a procession, songs and visits to neighbors. The procession goes from Centro Curarrehue along Avenida Las Rosas to Avenida Los Claveles, then returns via Avenida Las Rosas. The route may change as future neighborhood arrangements are made; if you plan to attend, confirm the date, route and participation in advance. Centro de Cultura Tradicional Curarrehue preserves the community’s poetic, musical, textile, medicinal, folk religious, gastronomic and artisanal heritage.

Food Culture and Suitable Accommodation

For the opening of Mercado Gastronómico de Caleta Alto del Rey, five fully equipped food stalls and a dining area were set up to serve traditional dishes made with fresh seafood.

When choosing a vacation rental, first decide which focus you want to shape your stay: the wetland, water sports, beach walks, religious tradition or culture. Compare the location of potential accommodations with the experiences you actually plan to enjoy, and tailor your search to your preferred travel pace.
