Pucón offers a range of experiences centred on water, the town and culture. At Playa Grande, the beach and waterfront promenade set the scene; tourist boat trips on Lago Villarrica depart from La Poza. If you prefer to get around on foot or by bicycle, there are also plenty of places to explore in town. When choosing a holiday apartment or house, consider which of these sides of Pucón most appeal to you for your holiday.

Playa Grande and La Poza by the Water

Playa Grande is Pucón’s main beach. It is next to the town, stretches for 4 kilometres and has a paved waterfront promenade. In summer, it hosts a range of tourist activities and water sports. The beach thus combines a long stretch of waterfront with seasonal activities on the water—a focus in its own right for anyone who wants to discover Pucón primarily from the beach.

La Poza plays a different role: it is Pucón’s main harbour and mooring place for motorboats and sailboats. Tourist boats depart from there for sightseeing trips on Lago Villarrica. At the same time, La Poza has been designated a protected urban wetland by Chile’s Ministry of the Environment and is an important urban conservation area in the municipality. The harbour and protected area characterise the place in different ways.

A Walk Through the Centre

A moderate walk can begin at Plaza Parque, pass the Museo Padre Pancho and Playa Grande, and then continue to La Poza and its waterfront promenade. This lets you link several of the places mentioned along a walking route, rather than focusing your stay solely on the beach or boat trips. Plaza Parque is intended to highlight the municipality’s cultural identity and serves as a family-friendly place to rest in green surroundings.

Local crafts and the well-known wooden flowers are also among the discoveries to be made in the centre: visitors can buy them while out for a walk. This offers a different way to experience Pucón from spending a day by the water, and complements visits to exhibition venues with local handicrafts.

Museums and Local History

The Museo de la Pesca Recreativa is located in the Los Boldos sector of Playa Grande. It highlights the heritage of the Sindicato de Boteros de Pucón. Exhibits include historical objects and photographs, as well as life-size replicas of emblematic species such as salmon and trout. The renovated premises also feature crafts inspired by flora and fauna, along with historical photographs. The museum therefore showcases objects and images as well as craftwork.

Casa del Padre Pancho features a photographic exhibition with milestones from the priest’s life, along with a number of personal items that illustrate his story. Casa Museo Padre Pancho is part of Ruta Patrimonial No. 61 in the Región de la Araucanía, “Padre Pancho. Misionero en la Araucanía”, and the Ruta Binacional de la Fe, which connects Chile with Argentina. In addition to the exhibits, visitors interested in culture can also consider the house’s place on these two routes.

Getting Around by Bicycle

An urban cycling loop starts at Paseo La Poza and follows the Ruta Pucón–Villarrica to Cristo del Antumalal and a carved wooden cross near the municipal cemetery. The route returns to Plaza Parque via the town centre. The sequence of stops gives the outing a clear direction and connects La Poza, places outside the centre and Plaza Parque, so you can distinguish the loop from a walk through the town centre.

Bicycle rental shops in Pucón provide helmets, basic safety equipment and tool kits; some also offer assistance along the way. When planning your holiday, you can therefore weigh up a stay focused on walks and museum visits against one with more emphasis on the cycling loop.

When looking for a holiday apartment or house in Pucón, your preferred focus can make the difference: the beach and summer water sports, boat trips, culture or cycling. This lets you choose your destination based on the experiences you want to shape your trip.
