Sapiranga offers a range of options for a trip: nature and active pursuits take centre stage at Morro Ferrabraz, while museums and historic sites offer insights into the municipality’s history. In the town centre, a park with a lake and walking paths, along with squares and sports facilities, add to the picture. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you’d rather focus on outdoor activities, culture or a mix of both.

Morro Ferrabraz and trails in the green

Morro Ferrabraz lies in the north of the municipality and reaches an elevation of 779 metres. An area of 5,761 hectares of Atlantic Forest forms part of Morro Ferrabraz. The mountain is one of Sapiranga’s attractions and also a place for a range of activities: visitors can go mountain biking and hang gliding there. National and international hang-gliding competitions are also held there. If you’re interested in this sport, Ferrabraz is one of the defining experiences Sapiranga has to offer.

For downhill riders, the Villa Paiva trail on Morro Ferrabraz is particularly interesting. It is one of the country’s most technically demanding downhill trails and features on the calendar of the most important stages. This makes clear that the focus here is on a challenging trail; it is therefore a different destination from an outing centred mainly on nature and enjoying the scenery. There are also mountain biking opportunities at Ferrabraz.

Parque Municipal do Imigrante is located in the town centre. Its grounds include native forest, a lake and paths. The park was designed for cultural and recreational activities for the community and region. If you’re looking for a more peaceful outdoor activity, you can consider the paths and lake as part of your stay. The park also has a modern skatepark and a basketball court, offering sports facilities alongside its natural areas.

Lauro Campos de Moraes Skatepark has an 895-square-metre street course and a covered vertical bowl course with stands. The bowl course layout meets international competition standards. These specific facilities are especially appealing to visitors interested in skateboarding or keen to discover its different disciplines.

Museums, architectural history and remembrance

Since 1996, the Museu Municipal Adolfo Evaldo Lindenmeyer has been housed in the former Sapyranga railway station. The station was decommissioned in the 1960s; some of its original features have been preserved, as have sections of track on the site. A visit therefore combines the museum with the history of the former station. Admission is free year-round: Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; and Sunday, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

You can get another glimpse into local history at the Museu Casa do Imigrante. Since 2022, it has been housed in the Casa do Imigrante. The building recreates the construction technique known as Enxaimel, which is associated with the early German-descended families in Sapiranga. The museum has a visitor reception area and an exhibition of objects from the past. Those interested in building techniques and the history of these families will find a different perspective here than in the former railway station.

The Caminhos de Jacobina route leads to sites that illustrate the course of the Mucker event. This event shaped Sapiranga’s history in the second half of the 19th century. The route is therefore suited to visitors who want to explore historical connections not only through exhibitions, but also through the places associated with what happened.

Squares and local traditions

Praça das Rosas has a rose garden that symbolises Sapiranga. The flower beds stretch along Avenida 20 de Setembro. The square offers its own town-centre perspective on a symbol of the municipality. The Festa das Rosas is also part of local tradition: it is considered Sapiranga’s most important event and was held annually for more than 35 editions.
