Discover Muçum: Bridge, Views and Nature
Accommodation in Muçum
Muçum combines a striking structure over the Rio Taquari with a viewpoint and hikes in the municipality. This offers several ways to shape your trip: you can admire the road and railway bridge, enjoy the panoramic view from Mirante Nossa Senhora da Salete, or set aside more time for the forest and waterfall. When looking for a vacation rental, it helps to first consider which of these experiences you want to shape your days.
A bridge for road and rail
The Ponte Rodo-Ferroviária Brochado da Rocha spans the Rio Taquari and is 289 meters long. Both the RS 129 highway and a railway line cross the structure. This dual transport connection makes the bridge a distinctive place to visit: river, road and rail meet here at a landmark with a name. Muçum is 154 kilometers from Porto Alegre. This distance is a useful reference point for placing the town in your travel plans.
Panoramic views from the viewpoint
At Mirante Nossa Senhora da Salete, there is a statue of Mary about five meters tall; the viewpoint’s main attraction is the panoramic view of Muçum. The footpath up is about 500 meters long, steep and surfaced with stones. It takes physical effort, even though the route is short. So plan the climb as a separate active experience and allow time to enjoy the view over the town. This is a different focus for an outing than a longer hike through the forest to the waterfall.
A hike through the forest to the waterfall
In the municipality, in Comunidade Santo Isidoro, the Caminhada Ecológica leads on foot through natural forest to Cascata Arroio Brava. The round-trip hike is scheduled to take four hours. A visit to Gruta Nossa Senhora das Vitórias is also possible along the way. This tour is quite different from the steep path to the viewpoint: here, you’ll spend several hours on foot, combining forest, waterfall and grotto in one hike. If you’d like to include this route in your trip, check in advance that it suits your plans.
A rural visit with a time-dependent opportunity
Another experience in the municipality is a visit to the rural property of Avelino Bassani and Gilmar Banhara. Visitors can take part in milking the animals, provided they arrive while milking is in progress. Timing is therefore essential if you want to participate. The Trem dos Vales is also one of the region’s tourist experiences: the train journey runs between Guaporé and Muçum on the Ferrovia do Trigo. If you’d like to include it in your plans, check the departure dates for your travel period in advance.
Plan your stay around the experiences
Use your planned activities as a guide when looking for a vacation rental. Would you mainly like to see the bridge and the view of Muçum, or would you rather make more room for the longer hike in the municipality? The rural visit and train journey also each offer a distinct focus. This distinction can help you shape your travel plans around the experiences that interest you most, rather than trying to fit every destination into the same daily schedule. The distance from Porto Alegre also offers a regional reference point without committing you to a particular route.
