Feliz: Park, Ponte de Ferro and German Festival Culture
Accommodation in Feliz
Feliz combines nature on the Rio Caí with a striking historic bridge and lively German traditions. The Parque Municipal de Feliz has green spaces, a lake with a route for walking and running, and the Happy Valen nature tourism complex. There are also museums, religious buildings and festivals that reveal different sides of the town. When planning your trip, the question is therefore less a choice between nature and culture than which of these experiences interests you most.
Nature and exercise at Parque Municipal
Parque Municipal de Feliz covers 24 hectares of green space on the Rio Caí. There is a route around its lake for walking and running. If you like to set aside time in nature during your stay, this gives you a specific option for planning a day in Feliz. The Rio Caí is also one of the places visited by tourists passing through.
The Happy Valen nature tourism complex is also located in the park. Pedal boats and water bikes are available there. The park’s different offerings can thus be enjoyed according to your interests: a walk or run around the lake, or watercraft at Happy Valen. If you value experiences like these, you can consider Feliz when looking for a holiday apartment without structuring your stay around a single activity.
Ponte de Ferro: history and pedestrian bridge
Ponte de Ferro adds an unusual story to a visit to the town. It was brought to Feliz in dismantled form from Belgium, where it had previously served railway traffic, and was inaugurated in March 1900. Since June 2008, it has been listed as state historic heritage under Law No. 12.989 of June 13.
Since 2025, Ponte de Ferro has been reserved exclusively for pedestrians. It also offers a place to appreciate its beauty and historical value. The bridge thus combines its former use as a railway bridge with its present-day designation for pedestrians only. If you are interested in engineering and local history, the bridge is one distinct reason to get to know Feliz better.
Museums, churches and local history
The Museu Histórico Municipal de Feliz preserves a collection of three-dimensional and two-dimensional objects, photographs, documents and books. The entire collection was donated by the local community. The Memorial Schlatter is dedicated to the history of healthcare in Feliz. The two places have different focuses: a variety of objects and memorabilia from the community in one, and the history of healthcare in the other.
Religious buildings and communities are also part of Feliz’s history. The Igreja Matriz Santa Catarina is considered one of the town’s most significant religious and architectural landmarks; its cornerstone was laid on November 21, 1948. The Comunidade Evangélica de Confissão Luterana de Feliz dates back to the period of German colonization in 1846 in what was then Picada Feliz. These dates provide two specific historical reference points without equating their distinct histories.
Festivals and German traditions
The Festival Nacional do Chopp, held annually in Feliz, celebrates the city’s brewing tradition. The program includes German brass bands, a typical German dinner and performances by Feliz’s German folk dance group. The Encontro de Cervejarias Artesanais e Cultura Alemã also aims to revive German and brewing traditions. It features colonial specialties, typical German cuisine and handicrafts.
Another place with a history of festivals and local events is SOCEF. Its hall hosted important meetings connected with Feliz’s municipal emancipation. At the same time, it has been the venue for the traditional Festival do Chopp for more than 50 years. For your travel decision, these traditions offer a different way to experience the town than its park and bridge: they turn the focus to food, music, dance and the history of the community.
Feliz as a starting point for your discovery
The Rampa de Voo Livre, like the Rio Caí, is among the places visited by tourists passing through Feliz. Together with Parque Municipal, Ponte de Ferro and the museums, it gives you a varied picture of the town without requiring you to commit to just one way of exploring it. Feliz is part of the Vale do Caí region, also known as “Vale da Felicidade.” If you want to choose your accommodation based on the themes that appeal to you most, Feliz offers opportunities to experience nature, history and German festival culture. The Feliz town page adds to this regional overview.
