Tupacyguara: Culture, Festivals and Water
Accommodation in Tupacyguara
Tupacyguara offers a variety of experiences side by side: a large artificial lake, a waterfall with a distinctive approach, and cultural sites in town. FEMUART brings together music, dance, art and local cuisine. Whether you prefer to focus on culture and traditions during your trip or are looking for nature experiences, these different facets offer a range of options for planning your holiday.
A waterfall and a lake as different destinations
There is no hiking trail at Cachoeira das 7 quedas; you can park directly at the waterfall. This information is more important for planning your outing than assuming there is a hiking route: if you want to visit the waterfall, you should take the absence of a trail into account and not expect a marked hiking path. This access is therefore clearly different from a visit where the walk itself is part of the experience.
Lago de Tupaciguara is an artificial lake and is approximately 180 km long. At this scale, it stands out as a landscape feature in its own right, distinct from the waterfall. When planning your trip, you can weigh up different interests: the lake as a large body of water, or the waterfall as a specific destination.
Cultural sites and festivals
Tupacyguara’s protected cultural heritage includes the Travessa Museu Histórico Chico Ribeiro e Casa da Cultura architectural complex and the Igreja do Rosário. The Igreja do Rosário is listed as a protected cultural asset. If you are interested in local culture and architectural heritage, these are two distinct places to explore the town’s cultural side.
FEMUART also puts culture and artistic performances in the spotlight. Its program includes live music, dance groups, theatre, art exhibitions and cultural workshops; it also features music, local cuisine and handicrafts. The 32nd FEMUART took place in Tupaciguara from 7 to 11 September 2022.
Another cultural event was the Festa do Congado: it took place in Tupaciguara on 1 December and was organised by the Irmandade de Nossa Senhora do Rosário e São Benedito. This is distinct from Tupaciguara’s free annual street carnival. 15 August is a public holiday in honour of Nossa Senhora da Abadia, the city’s patron saint. These occasions reflect different connections to festival culture and religious tradition and should not be combined into a single festival program.
Which side of the town suits your trip?
Your planned interests can help you choose a holiday rental: would you like to focus mainly on cultural sites and festival traditions, or are you more drawn to the landscape, with its lake and waterfall? The options mentioned differ considerably in character.
