Lima Duarte combines a distinctive townscape with natural attractions across the municipality. Protected cobblestones and the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora das Dores provide tangible links to local history; throughout the municipality, nature ranges from a challenging loop trail to waterfalls, caves, and viewpoints. To help plan your trip, start by deciding what you want to focus on: should the trip center mainly on historical sites or on nature and routes?

Nature Destinations and Routes in the Municipality

At Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca, the Circuito Janela do Céu is a 16-kilometer loop trail. Within the park, it is considered the longest and most challenging loop trail. This combination of length and difficulty makes it a clear point of reference for travelers considering a long hike. It puts a specific trail with a stated length and challenging rating at the center of the experience.

Fazenda das Cachoeiras do Arco-Íris, in the southern part of Lima Duarte municipality, offers a different kind of natural attraction. This major attraction in the area includes six waterfalls, three of which are each over 50 meters high. There are also caves and viewpoints. The waterfalls, including three over 50 meters high, offer a different focus from the loop trail; the caves and viewpoints add other landscape features.

The third stage of the Volta das Transições also begins in the main town of Lima Duarte. It follows an unpaved road out of the urban area toward Vila do Manejo. Unlike a single nature destination, the focus here is the route itself: its starting point, surface, and direction define the stage. This provides a distinct route-focused option alongside the loop trail and the natural features of the Fazenda.

Traces of Local History

In Lima Duarte, the cobblestones anchor cultural history in the townscape. The paved section on the right-hand side of Praça Juscelino Kubitschek is protected by the municipality for its cultural significance to the town. A preserved section of the original cobblestones begins at Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário and extends to the intersection of Rua Tancredo Alves near the Câmara Municipal. This section forms part of an extension of Rua Antônio Carlos, one of Lima Duarte’s oldest streets. Here, the protected cobblestones, their preserved course, and the street’s status as one of the town’s oldest can be considered together.

Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora das Dores adds a religious building with several protected objects to the town’s history. Nossa Senhora das Dores is the church’s patron saint. Protected objects include a clock and several religious images, including an image of the patron saint. The church was built in 1886 and again in 1937. In Barreira, within the municipality, stands the Estação da Rede Ferroviária Nacional. The Lima Duarte municipal government placed the station under municipal protection because of its cultural significance to the town. This extends the historical perspective beyond the town to another protected site in the municipality.
