Araguari brings together railway history, local culture and diverse natural attractions. The destination offers several ways to plan a holiday: from a collection dedicated to railway heritage and a long-standing culinary tradition to forests, rock formations and water. Which of these aspects shapes your stay can also guide your search for a holiday apartment.

Railway heritage and local culture

The Museu dos Ferroviários de Araguari has a collection related to the Estrada de Ferro Goiás and the Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro. These two railway connections give the collection a clear historical context and place a special emphasis on railway history. In the municipality of Araguari, the former Usina da Prada was also the first power plant to supply the city of Araguari with electricity. Different aspects of industrial history are therefore in focus: the railways and the former electricity supply.

Culinary tradition is also part of the local character. An account published in 2019 described Pastel de feira as a culinary tradition of Araguari and noted that, at the time, the same people had been making it for more than fifty years. This long continuity makes the tradition especially vivid: the focus is not only on a dish, but also on its production, continued over decades.

A description of the Casa da Cultura Abdala Mameri published in 2009 notes that it supported Folias de Reis and samba schools; dance and EMCANTAR workshops were also held there. Alongside railway history, earlier cultural activities are therefore among the themes that shape Araguari.

Forest, rock and water

Bosque John Kennedy is considered one of Brazil’s largest urban forest areas and a tourist attraction in Araguari. Another natural feature is Cachoeira do Piçarrão: it drops in a single cascade from a rock face into a small pool, then flows through rocky terrain bordered by native forest. An urban forest and a waterfall surrounded by rocky landscape thus offer two contrasting kinds of scenery.

The Rio Paranaíba runs through the municipality of Araguari, which is also home to more than 100 waterfalls. These figures refer to the municipality and give the landscape a broader dimension. They complement the specific natural attractions with a sense of the variety found throughout the municipality.

A tourism website in 2022 listed Corredeira do Pau Furado among Araguari’s natural attractions and associated the site with fishing, swimming, camping and water sports. These activities suggest a different focus from the description of Cachoeira do Piçarrão: here, it is not only water and rock as scenery, but also water-based activities. Check local conditions before visiting.

Choose the focus of your stay

A description from 2017 mentions a steep staircase of approximately 400 steps with a handrail at Usina da Prada, as well as a route for vehicles offering views of the waterfall and surrounding landscape. Check current conditions before travelling. The information about the staircase gives a concrete sense of the route described, while the views of the waterfall and landscape highlight the natural setting of this historic site.

If you are planning a trip around different interests, you can start by deciding what you want your journey to focus on: railway history, local culture, or nature and water activities. This priority can help you tailor your search for a holiday apartment to the kind of trip you want.
