Los Campitos: Pilgrimage, Historic Paths and Views
A traditional pilgrimage in honour of the Virgen del Carmen takes place in Los Campitos. The locality’s main festivities are held in her honour in July. Culture
As part of the patron saint festivities, a procession carries the image of the Virgen del Carmen from the parish buildings to the dam and then back via the TF-111. The 43rd edition of the Romería de Los Campitos was announced for 27 July 2024: it was due to begin at 18:00 at Lomo Las Casillas and end at CEIP Los Campitos with a verbena.
The Ermita de la Santa Cruz Verde was built in a vernacular style between 1880 and 1882. Era Los Campitos 2 preserves its original stone-paved floor.
Paths and History
The Camino de Los Campos is registered in Los Campitos as a protected ethnographic element, is 1.56 kilometres long and is considered one of the island’s most important historic paths.
The Camino de Las Lecheras runs through the Los Campitos district of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It was the main route used by the milkmaids who walked from La Laguna to Santa Cruz to sell their products.
Sections with stone paving are still preserved on the Camino de Las Lecheras on the slope of Las Mesas mountain. From there, the path offers unusual panoramic views of the capital.
Nature
Parque Las Mesas is the largest public park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and covers 405,700 square metres. Near the centre of Los Campitos, it is considered an extensive recreational area with a forestry focus and is accessible to residents of the entire municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
On the Los Campitos road (TF-111), the park is located behind the Ifara and Los Campitos districts, next to the technical facilities of Radio Nacional de España.
