Khokhryaki combines a diverse range of sports with a church and a memorial. Together, these offer different perspectives on the village: physical activity, religious history and remembrance of the villagers.

Sport Park Semya: Exercise and Water

The operator’s website lists fitness programmes for individuals and groups, team sports, and sports and development programmes for children. It also lists a swimming pool with a water slide, a Finnish sauna and a Turkish steam bath. The organisation of celebrations is also listed as an offering. The address is 117 Votkinskoye Highway in Khokhryaki. Check the address before travelling. Confirm any planned visit with the operator in advance and ask about the current availability of the services you want.

Church and Memorial

The Church of Saint Basil the Great opened on 16 September 2006 on the grounds of the Khokhryaki cemetery and was consecrated in a small ceremony. At the entrance to Khokhryaki stands a memorial to the villagers who died in the Great Patriotic War. While the church’s consecration history provides a religious connection, the memorial commemorates the fallen villagers.

Culture and Nature in the Republic of Udmurtia

The broader destination of the Republic of Udmurtia offers other cultural and nature-related experiences. One cultural attraction is the Peter Tchaikovsky Museum in Votkinsk, which opened in 1940. The interior of a house from the mid-19th century has been reconstructed there. Its exhibits include historical furniture from the 18th to the 20th century, porcelain, postcards, paintings, books and the Wirth piano, on which the composer learned to play. The family’s history is also connected to Votkinsk: Peter Tchaikovsky’s family lived there from 1837 to 1848, a total of eleven years, before moving to Moscow. The collection and family history offer different perspectives—on historical domestic life and on a specific period in the family’s life.

The Ludorvai Museum Reserve offers another perspective on cultural history. It comprises more than 20 buildings dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century and presents the everyday life of Russians, Besermyan and Udmurts from the 19th to the early 20th century. The tent-shaped windmill is an example of the wooden architecture represented there: it was built in 1912 by Fyodor Dragomirov from the Udmurt village of Chem-Kuyuk and is considered a valuable monument of wooden architecture.

Sharkan Nature Park offers a different focus. It lies between the Ita and Sharkan rivers and covers about 16,000 hectares. The park is home to 507 species of higher plants, about half of the republic’s total flora. Its five functional zones are the protected zone, the reserve zone, the organised tourism and recreation zone, the traditional-use zone and the buffer zone. The diversity of plants describes one aspect of the nature park; its size and layout also provide an overview of its different areas.
