Colina is one of the settlements on the edge of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. East of the settlement lies Tumulul de la Colina – Site 190, which could belong to a series of tumuli.

Tumulul de la Colina – Site 190 is therefore not presented as a conclusively established individual interpretation, but as a possible part of a series of tumuli. Its location east of Colina likewise remains a precise element of its classification.

Landscape

Colina Est is a hill in the immediate vicinity of Colina. Movila Săpata is also a hill in this immediate vicinity. Movila lui Bocioagă is likewise a hill in the immediate vicinity of Colina. Insula Popina is an island in the surroundings of Colina.

The landscape features mentioned thus comprise three hills and one island. Colina Est, Movila Săpata, and Movila lui Bocioagă are each assigned to the immediate vicinity, while Insula Popina lies in the surroundings of Colina. The different designations preserve the distinct character of the individual places: hills and islands do not appear as interchangeable landscape forms.

Culture

A Muslim mosque in Colina, Murighiol commune, is associated with the former, abandoned village of Caraibil. Biserica Ortodoxă Plopul, an Orthodox church, lies in the surroundings of Colina. Cetatea Proslaviţa Nufăru is a historic site in the wider regional area around Colina. The Orthodox church feast in Colina takes place annually on May 21.

The cultural references range from a former village and an Orthodox church to a historic site in the wider regional area. The mosque is also explicitly part of the history of the abandoned village of Caraibil. The church feast on May 21 adds an annually recurring date in Colina to these local references.

History

A Roman settlement existed in the Murighiol area in the 2nd to 3rd century AD. Later, a Turkish settlement called Ahmed Facî developed in the Murighiol area. Evlia Celebi mentioned Ahmed Facî in the 17th century. The present-day settlement in the Murighiol area originated before 1850. In 1900, the settlement in the Murighiol area had a mosque with an imam. In the same year, Tatars and Turks still constituted the majority in the settlement.

The chronological sequence extends from the Roman settlement in the 2nd century, through Ahmed Facî and its mention by Evlia Celebi, to the present-day settlement, which originated before 1850. For 1900, both the mosque with an imam and the then majority of Tatars and Turks are documented. Several historical layers of the Murighiol area thus emerge side by side.

Public Transport

A regular public transport connection is designated for the period from 01/01/2022 to 31/12/2031. It runs from Tulcea via Murighiol to Dunăvățu de Jos or Colina. The designated route therefore names Tulcea, Murighiol, Dunăvățu de Jos, and Colina as part of a single connection.

For the overarching travel overview: Murighiol.
