Culture
The “Taraschina” archaeological site is located between the Șontea and Olguța canals, near Lake Taraschina in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. The Neolithic–Eneolithic settlement at the “Taraschina” site in the surroundings of Maliuc Commune is designated as a historic monument and is considered the oldest human settlement known to date in the Danube Delta. The “Taraschina” archaeological complex is dated to approximately 6,000 years ago.
Archaeological material attributed to the Eneolithic, the Roman period and the Middle Ages was discovered at the “Dâmbul lui Haralambie” site on the banks of the Șontea Canal. The ruins of “Ruinele Cetăţii Beştepe”, the historic site “Cetatea Salsovia Mahmudia” and the historic site “Cetatea Proslaviţa Nufăru” are located in the surroundings of Maliuc Commune. The “Biserica Ortodoxă Maliuc” church is located in the immediate surroundings of Maliuc Commune.
Culinary delights
In the village of Gorgova, Maliuc Commune, “Stupina Gorgova” keeps 130 traditionally and permanently housed bee colonies. At the same location, “Stupina Gorgova” includes a breeding, improvement and conservation farm for the native Romanian Carpathian honeybee. “Stupina Gorgova” offers visitors tastings of honey, pollen, bee bread, honeycomb and mead or hydromel.
