The museum has 19 exhibition halls. The open-air section comprises two traditional houses. One of them is a Hutsul house from the 17th century. The second house dates from the mid-18th century.

The “Ioan Grămadă” Ethnographic Collection was opened to the public in 1999 and conveys the atmosphere of a traditional Bukovinian house from the late 19th century.

Together, the two institutions showcase wood art and the residential culture of Bukovina in various historical contexts, without changing the wood art museum’s own focus.

Culture

The Havre Gah Templul is a Jewish place of worship at No. 1 Arboroasa Street, near the food market. It was built in 1894.

The Roman Catholic church in Câmpulung Moldovenesc was built in 1815 by order of Emperor Francis I, using stone and bricks and following a design originating from Vienna. It is one of the oldest testimonies to the Catholic community in the region.

In the vicinity of Câmpulung Moldovenesc are the Schitul Rarău Monastery, Mânăstirea Moldoviţa Monastery, Moldoviţa Monastery, and the Biserica Ortodoxă Deia Orthodox Church.

Thus, in addition to the institutions in the town, the cultural surroundings also include several monasteries and an Orthodox church in the vicinity of Câmpulung Moldovenesc.

Nature

Câmpulung Moldovenesc stretches for 12 km along both sides of the Moldova River. The town lies in the gorge between the Obcinele Bucovinei and the Stânişoarei Mountains.

The town’s extent along the river and its location between the two mountain landscapes determine its geographical classification.

The Rarău Massif reaches an elevation of 1,650 m.

The Pietrele Doamnei nature reserve covers 568 ha. It consists of three limestone obelisks. These reach heights of up to 1,633 m.

The three limestone obelisks are a clearly identified component of the 568 ha protected area and reach heights close to that of the Rarău Massif.

Cheile Moara Dracului is a 10 ha geological protected area at the northeastern foot of Rarău. The area lies along the upper course of the Valea Caselor stream and 10.5 km from the center of Câmpulung Moldovenesc.

The combination of its geological protected status, its location along the upper course of the Valea Caselor stream, and the stated distance clearly identifies this landscape feature within the surrounding area.

The centuries-old elm trees at Pârâul Morii are considered a natural monument. They are approximately half a millennium old and lie on the boundary between the Câmpulung Moldovenesc area and the municipality of Sadova.

The surrounding area also includes Măgura Deia Mountain, Dealul Socilor Mountain, Vârful Runcul Sandului Peak, and Pietrele Doamnei Mountain.

At an elevation of 1,470 m, Piatra Șoimului offers a 360° panorama over the Bistrița Valley, the Munceii Rarăului, and the Giumalău Mountains.

The named viewpoint thus extends across a valley, the Munceii Rarăului, and the Giumalău Mountains, combining several landscape areas in a single view.

Winter sports

The “Rarău” ski slope is 2,850 m long and classified as easy to intermediate.

The length describes an extensive descent, while the classification identifies easy and intermediate sections as a shared characteristic of the slope.
