At the Tell-ul Vidra site, the settlement layers of the Middle Neolithic Boian culture and the Eneolithic Gumelnița culture include burned houses, hearths, and remains of domestic furnishings. Settlement phases from the late La Tène period, dating from the 3rd to 4th century AD, the Early Middle Ages, dating from the 9th to 10th century, and the Late Middle Ages, dating from the 18th century, have also been documented there.

Landscape
Vidra Commune and its villages of Crețești and Șintești are located on the left bank of the Sabar River, a tributary of the Argeș. The commune lies in the Lower Danube Plain, in the subregion known as “Câmpul Câlnăului,” which is bordered by the Argeș and Dâmbovița rivers.
The Tinuta and Bartoneasa (Câmpia Verde) wooded areas are regarded as preserved forest areas located directly near Vidra. Chub, barbel, and stone loach are cited as characteristic fish species in the Sabar and Argeș rivers.
History and Culture
The former wooden church of Vidra bore the year 1733 and the name of the craftsman Stoian on one of its beams. The church that preceded today’s Biserica Sfântul Dimitrie was built in 1872.
The war memorial of Vidra stands on Strada Principală opposite the general school. It commemorates the commune’s soldiers who fell in the wars of 1877–1878, 1916–1917, and 1941 and includes a bronze battle relief and an eagle crowned with a laurel wreath.
The Biserica Sfântul Dimitrie in Vidra is dedicated to Saint Dimitrie and the Dormition of the Mother of God; the feast days are observed on October 26 and August 15, respectively. The church in Crețești is dedicated to Saint George the Great Martyr, while the parish church in Sintești is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God.
The “Zeița de la Vidra” monument is located on the grounds of the Liceul Teoretic “Alexandru Rosetti.” This Liceul Teoretic also houses a small exhibition of Neolithic artifacts from archaeological sites in the territory of Vidra Commune.
Objects recovered during excavations in Vidra were handed over to the city’s History Museum and to the Central History Museum of the City of Bucharest on Calea Victoriei.
Festivals
The commune holds the “Zilele Localității Vidra” festival annually on September 8. Traditional concerts are held annually in Parohia Vidra on the Sunday before Christmas and on Palm Sunday.
Geographical Location
Văcărești Monastery is a ruin in the vicinity of Vidra Commune. The Bucharest–Giurgiu railway line crosses the southeastern part of Vidra; Progresul railway station in southern Bucharest is 17 km away.
The county road between Vidra and Capăceni crosses the Sabar over a well-maintained stone bridge. Cotroceni Palace, the Palace of the Parliament, Stavropoleos Monastery, Carol Park, Cold Spring Park, Cișmigiu Park, and Drumul Taberei Park are located in the wider regional vicinity of Vidra Commune.
