Comuna Balotești is located in the Câmpia Română, in the southern part of Câmpia Vlăsiei, also known as Câmpia Bucureștilor. The landscape consists of an almost flat plain with a slight slope from north to south. The uniformity of the plain is interrupted in the north by the Valea Vlăsiei, in the south by the Valea Cociovaliștea, and by local depressions formed through mechanical and subsequently chemical suffosion processes.
Along the undeveloped sections of the Valea Vlăsiei, hygrophilous vegetation is strongly pronounced.
Culture and History
The Biserica din Balotești dates from 1763. It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, Saint Theodore Tiron, and Saint Stelian of Paphlagonia.
The Balotești Monument stands at the intersection of Strada I.C. Brătianu and Șoseaua Unirii. Its inscription commemorates the heroes of the commune from the years 1916–1919, 1941–1945, and December 1989. The monument consists of two prismatic volumes made of red granite and a granite cross.
The Baloteşti archaeological site on the right bank of the Cociovaliştea stream, at the eastern edge of Petreşti Forest, includes a settlement from the Geto-Dacian period and a Bronze Age settlement. The Baloteşti archaeological site, at the “Malul stâng Cociovaliştea” location, lies on the left bank of the Cociovaliştea and includes a settlement from the Geto-Dacian period.
The Baloteşti archaeological site, at the “Râul Vlăsia” location, lies on the right bank of the Vlăsia stream, east of the road to the TBC Sanatorium, on agricultural land and in Paşcani Forest. The archaeological site of Săftica with the designation IF-I-s-B-20258 lies on the right bank of the Vlăsia stream, east and northeast of Săftica.
The Orthodox Biserica “Sf. Troită”, “Sf. Dumitru şi Sf. Elisabeta” is located in Săftica, Comuna Baloteşti, on Strada Sf. Troită.
