Pleșcuța is in the Metaliferi Mountains, near the northern border with the Bihor Mountains. One of the area’s distinctive landscape features is Colțul Sturului, a scenic rock formation opposite the hamlet of Pleșcuță. From there, you can see the scattered settlement of Pleșcuța. The rocks and scattered buildings give you two concrete points of reference for picturing the local landscape. When looking for a holiday rental, you can first consider whether you’d rather base your stay around the mountain scenery or the history of the homesteads.

Mountain Scenery and Nature Sites

The Cheile Văii Morilor nature reserve includes Peștera Cala, a 150-metre-long cave known for its iron-rich sinter formations. This nature site brings together the cave’s length and its distinctive formations. In Cheile Văii Morilor, a trackless stretch begins about 800 metres beyond a wooded ridge. This is a different landscape feature from the view of the scattered settlement from Colțul Sturului: here, the gorge is described in terms of a stretch without a path, while there, the focus is the view of the village. If you plan to visit the cave, check access in advance.

Homesteads and Local History

The Coroi Rovin family homestead in Pleșcuța is a dwelling built around 1890. A description from 1984 recorded the Orga Rafila homestead in Pleșcuța, on the hills above Valea Morii, set apart from the other homesteads. Valea Morii is in the hamlet of Pleșcuța, in the commune of Vidra. Different features stand out at the two homesteads: the approximate construction date is a point of reference for the Coroi Rovin family house, while Orga Rafila is notable for its elevated location, set apart from the other homesteads. The local history is therefore understood not only through a construction date, but also through how a homestead fits into the landscape.

Hiking and Getting There

A 2016 route description names Pensiunea Valea Morii in Pleșcuța as the starting point for a hike to Cheile Văii Morilor – Vf. Sturul – Colțul Sturului. If this route is important to your plans, check in advance whether the guesthouse is currently available and whether the hike still starts there. This connects your accommodation choice with a specific interest in the described hike, without assuming current availability.

A 2016 field report describes a paved road that runs from the turnoff near Ponorel through a narrow, wooded valley and reaches Pleșcuța after about one kilometre. Road conditions may have changed; check them before driving. The approximate distance gives you an idea of the route, but does not replace a current assessment of road conditions. Together with its mountain setting and the named nature and cultural sites, this information can help you choose Pleșcuța as a holiday destination based on your interests.
