Agios Konstantinos can be explored for trip planning through three distinct points of reference: two archaeological sites near the destination, the Havgas Gorge in the surrounding area, and the E4 trail to the Katharo Plateau in the wider travel region. This distinction is useful when you are looking for a holiday apartment and do not want to plan your stay around a place name alone. First consider whether archaeology, the gorge landscape, or a hiking destination in the wider travel region should be the focus. Treat these as separate planning points; this makes it clear which part of your stay belongs to Agios Konstantinos, the surrounding area, or the wider travel region.

Two archaeological sites near Agios Konstantinos

Bagkali and Kolona are archaeological sites on land near Agios Konstantinos. The names refer to two separately named places and therefore to a specific cultural focus. If you want to include archaeological interests in your holiday, list them separately in your plans rather than grouping them together as a single site. This allows you to clearly state your interests and focus your preparations on either Bagkali or Kolona. Together, they mark the historical aspect of the destination; the Havgas Gorge offers a different landscape-related option for planning a day out.

Havgas Gorge: trailhead and route direction

The Havgas Gorge is the only large gorge on the Lasithi Plateau. The usual route through the Havgas Gorge runs in the opposite direction. The trailhead is at the gorge exit beside the Agios Georgios reservoir; dirt roads beginning in Agios Konstantinos lead there. When planning, you should therefore distinguish between the start of the dirt roads and the trailhead at the gorge as two separate points. This clear sequence helps you correctly identify place names and directions before setting out. Current trail conditions may vary; check them before your hike.

The E4 to the Katharo Plateau

The E4 is another hiking reference in the wider travel region: it leads to the Katharo Plateau. The points of reference are therefore different: the Havgas Gorge trailhead is located at the exit beside the Agios Georgios reservoir, while the E4 leads to the plateau. This makes it possible to plan your route according to your desired destination. If you are travelling with children or companions of different ages, you can first weigh up everyone’s interests together: should the archaeological sites be the focus, or would you prefer the gorge or the Katharo Plateau as a hiking destination? Check local conditions before hiking on the E4.

Choose a focus when looking for a holiday apartment

This does not create a ranking for choosing accommodation, but it does offer a useful focus: the archaeological sites are located near Agios Konstantinos; the gorge is in the surrounding area; and the E4 leads to the Katharo Plateau in the wider travel region. If you want to spend as much time as possible at the archaeological sites, you can make the village itself the reference point for your search. If your plans focus mainly on the gorge or the Katharo Plateau, consider their different locations before deciding on your holiday destination. This also makes it clear, even on a trip with varied interests, what belongs to the destination and what lies in the wider regional area. The right choice depends first on which of the three themes you want to focus on; then choose a holiday apartment as your type of accommodation based on that focus.
