Culture and History
The Aqueduc du Mont d’Or crosses Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d’Or over an estimated distance of 4,360 metres. Pope Clement V stayed at the Château de Saint-Cyr from 12 February to 6 March 1306.
In the village centre, the Circuit du centre historique is marked with 18 explanatory panels. The Tour du Guetteur is 21 metres high and the only surviving one of the five towers equipped with machicolations belonging to the 12th-century feudal castle. Construction of the Château de Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d’Or began in 1150.
In the hamlet of La Chaux, a Gallo-Roman funerary inscription was discovered at the site referred to as villa Calciensis. The Ermitage du Mont Cindre was founded in the 14th century by a member of a religious order from the Île Barbe monastery. The municipality of Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d’Or offers guided tours of the Ermitage du Mont Cindre.
