Savas-Mépin today consists of two clearly separate parts: the small village of Savas lies in the north, while the somewhat larger village centre of Mépin is in the south. The two parts are separated by the RD502; this former RN502 runs through Savas-Mépin.

Geographical setting
The area of Savas-Mépin lies west of the ancient territory of the Allobroges. Savas and Mépin are located near Saint-Jean-de-Bournay.
Savas-Mépin is served by the T35 bus route operated by Cars Région, which provides connections to Vienne and La Côte-Saint-André. The nearest railway station is Vienne station; TER trains operated by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region run there on the routes from Mâcon-Ville to Vienne and from Vienne to Valence. Savas-Mépin is approximately equidistant from the A7 motorway with the Vienne-Nord interchange and the A43 with the Villefontaine interchange.
Culture and history
Under the Ancien Régime, the parishes of Savas and Mépin were subject to the lordship of the Lords of Beauvoir-de-Marc. At the beginning of the revolutionary period, Savas and Mépin initially became independent communes and were united into a single commune between 1790 and 1794. The church of Saint-Bonnet de Savas preserves a historical detail: its bell dates from the 15th century.

The 59-km cycling loop “Promenade entre forêts et étangs” begins in Villeneuve-de-Marc and passes through Savas-Mépin, Beauvoir-de-Marc, Artas, Culin and Saint-Jean-de-Bournay. The 5.9-km “Bois Thomas” route is located in Savas-Mépin itself.
The “Le vallon de Vernéa” hike from Savas is a 9.99-km moderately difficult circular hike with an average duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes. It begins at the small car park between the church and a playground, first leads into a forest and then through a valley along a stream to the Vernéa area.
“Sur les hauteurs de Savas” begins at the car park in front of the chapel and leads through Savas. The hike is 9.10 km long, takes an average of 3 hours and 20 minutes and has a moderate difficulty level. Along the route, there are views of the Saint-Jean plain.
Local character
At Thierry Janin in Savas-Mépin, seasonally grown vegetables from the farm, as well as other fruit and vegetables from local producers or other areas of origin, are offered.
