The Saint-Joseph-de-Rivière heritage trail takes three hours and leads to the municipality’s key heritage features. The church of Saint-Joseph-de-Rivière was built in 1858 and has a Gothic vault supported by pillars with buttresses. The Tuilerie is an emblematic heritage site in the village of Saint-Joseph-de-Rivière.
Nature
The peat bog is designated as a remarkable natural area; visitors can walk there and observe the fauna and flora of wetland habitats. An educational trail explains the diversity of the fauna and flora in this wetland, the largest wetland in the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park.
Trails
The Herretang trail follows the canal of the same name and leads from the Saint-Joseph-de-Rivière football pitch to Villette; it can be used on foot or by bicycle. The Via Chartreuse is a 17-kilometre greenway consisting mainly of unpaved paths and connecting the municipality of Saint-Joseph-de-Rivière with Saint-Christophe-la-Grotte.
Two trails offer views of the Cascade de la Pisserotte: an easy trail leads to the foot of the waterfall, while a more challenging trail runs above the 80-metre-high drop. The Cascade de la Pisserotte is 64 metres high and can easily be reached on foot in 15 minutes. In addition, the Saint-Joseph-de-Rivière body of water was created for fishing.
Local area
The Ferme de Plantimay offers free visits and direct sales from the farm. Goat’s, cow’s and mixed-milk cheeses are available there, including Saint-Marcellin PGI and Tomme de Chartreuse.
