Rives: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A prominent structure in Rives is the Viaduc du Pont-du-bœuf. It crosses the Fure, is 45 metres high and has sixteen round arches.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Chapelle des Papeteries was built in 1847 by the Blanchet family. Its interior wall paintings are by Alexandre Debelle; he also designed the templates for the chapel’s stained-glass windows.

The former church of the Saint-Vallier Priory dates from the 12th century. Standing separately, the Église Saint-Valère is the focus of further architectural details: its stained-glass windows are signed with the names Balmet, Bégule and Gaudin. The plans and cost estimates for the Église Saint-Valère by Alfred Berruyer were approved in 1893.

The market hall in Rives is also part of the local architectural history. It was built in 1858 and has borne the “Patrimoine en Isère” label since 2018. The first metallurgical activities in Rives date back to the 12th century.

Nature and Trails

In Rives, the Val de Fure is a green space and recreational area. The Fure is lined with wet meadows and damp woodland areas that serve as a passageway for wildlife between Lac de Paladru and the Isère Valley.

For hikes, Rives offers the La Vallée de la Fure circular route. It is moderately difficult, 7.8 kilometres long and involves 120 metres of ascent. At the main junctions, the route is marked in yellow and with directional signposts.

The Parc de l’Orgère has a large central lawn, concrete steps and a wood-effect concrete bridge. There are also grottoes and stone features from which water flows.

Getting Your Bearings

Rives railway station is served by numerous TER trains heading towards Grenoble or Lyon. The Église Saint-Valère is open daily and freely accessible from 1 January to 31 December.
