The Vallée Fossile des Rimets in Rencurel lies at an altitude of 1,100 metres and contains an exceptional wealth of diverse fossils. Its landscape comprises meadows, lapiaz and beech forest; dry grasslands are home to numerous butterflies and orchids. The Vallée Fossile des Rimets is of great geological, floristic, faunal and rural-historical importance. It is also the only geological “Espace naturel sensible” in the Isère département.

Activities
Stage 2 of the GR de Pays “Le tour des Coulmes” leads from Malleval-en-Vercors through the forests and clearings of the Coulmes before reaching Rencurel. Rencurel also has three climbing areas equipped with climbing routes: La crique, Cordet/Collavet and Rocher de Gonson.
There is also a designated mountain bike route: Stage 5 of the GTV VTT Rencurel / Autrans starts in Rencurel, is 25.9 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 1,207 metres, is rated difficult and has a stated duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Winter
The Les Coulmes area has more than 50 kilometres of cross-country ski trails for classic skiing and skating, running from Presles to Rencurel. The Les Coulmes alpine area at the Col de Romeyère in Rencurel has three ski lifts, a conveyor belt for beginners and slopes of varying difficulty levels. Several signposted snowshoe hikes start in Rencurel; they range from options for beginners to physically demanding levels.
Geographical location
In winter, access to the Les Coulmes alpine area and the Belvédère is via the Col de Romeyère near Rencurel. The road du Mont Noir between the two sectors is closed to traffic when there is snow.
