Panossas presents its history at several clearly identifiable sites. The parish church of Saint-Martin is already documented in 1247 in the inventory of the Abbey of Saint-Chef. Its old flooring preserves three tomb slabs: one in the nave and two in the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. The slabs are partly concealed by the rebuilding of the walls. A sundial is painted on the front façade of the church.

Renting a holiday apartment in Panossas may be part of the itinerary for travellers interested in Saint-Martin, the Étang de Marsa and the hiking trail.

Nature

The Étang de Marsa and the dry grasslands of Marsa are designated as an Espace Naturel Sensible. The Espace Naturel Sensible of Marsa is home to more than 450 animal and plant species. At the Étang de Marsa, a 1 km-long path with picnic tables allows visitors to explore this natural area.

The Charamel Marsh interpretation trail comprises ten educational stations featuring dry grasslands, flowering meadows, wet woodlands, ponds and marshes.

Trails

The red-stone hiking trail of Panossas is a marked 10 km circular route of moderate difficulty, with a stated duration of three hours. The lime tree of Serre along the Panossas hiking trail dates back to 1650 and has a circumference of more than 4.20 metres.

Culture and history

The Maison forte d’Antouillet in Panossas is a historic fortified house, with circular towers still visible. Near the Étang de Marsa, the historic Pressoir de Marsa (Moulin de Marsa), an oil mill, is located in the municipality of Panossas.

Every year in May, the waterwheel of the Pressoir de Marsa is set in motion again for visitors during the Walnut Festival. This demonstrates this historic hydraulic craft.

Individual visits to Panossas’s heritage sites are possible daily, at any time and free of charge throughout the year.
