Nivolas-Vermelle: Holiday Apartments and Houses
Historically, the Agny River formed the boundary between Nivolas and Vermelle: Nivolas belonged to Dauphiné, while Vermelle belonged to Savoy. The town’s industrial past is also still present. The Grange Porcher and the Bois Porcher are considered the last remaining testimonies to the industrial past of Nivolas-Vermelle.
Culture
The Church of Vermelle stands on a tumulus and has been mentioned since the 12th century. The cultural programme Les Saisons de Vermelle opens the Church of Vermelle to exhibitions and concerts.
The Chapel of Boussieu in Nivolas-Vermelle has eight stained-glass windows made by René Lalique and a communion table created by him. In the Boussieu district, which extends across Bourgoin-Jallieu, Nivolas-Vermelle and Ruy, the Schwarzenbach weaving mills were established towards the end of the 19th century; the female workers were housed in a boarding school run by the Sisters of Sainte-Philomène. The Chapelle des Tissages du Vernay is considered one of the first factories to be relocated from 1850 onwards following the silk weavers’ uprising.
