The Château du Châtelard is one of the historic landmarks in Montagnieu. Since January 30, 1989, it has been partially listed as a historic monument. Protected features include the façades and roofs of the residential building, with the exception of the north building, as well as remnants of the fortifications, the entrance pavilion, and the barn. The main construction phases took place in the second half of the 14th century and the first half of the 17th century.

Renting a holiday apartment in Montagnieu remains an independent accommodation decision.

Culture

The Château du Châtelard is privately owned and closed to the public. The Cadran solaire sundial was created in 1936 by Père Rémy Bernard KART and, based on the exact time in Montagnieu, displays the local times of all the world's capital cities. The sundial was renovated so that it could once again be put on public display.

Trails and Landscape

The historic stone Pont Sainte-Marguerite bridge is located in the forests of Châtelard and is regularly crossed by hikers. It spans the Bier River and forms a natural boundary between two municipalities.

The easy Chemin des crêtes circular trail offers varied views of the Chartreuse, the Savoy foothills, and Mont Blanc in the background. The circular trail begins at the church car park; from there, the yellow markings first lead to the town hall and then along the signposted intersections.

The lavoir stands beside the Bier stream, which is also known as the Biève.
