History and Culture
The Romanesque crypt of Saint-Sixte was built over the remains of a 4th-century Roman temple. It is located behind a grille and is not accessible.
The Château de Saint-Sixte was later occupied by the Maquis during the Second World War. Its present condition as a ruin is the result of a fire set by German troops in retaliation during the Second World War. At the end of the 19th century, the ruins of the Château de Saint-Sixte were the summer residence of the Lyon industrialist André Descours.
The Saint-Ferréol Church in Merlas is one of the three churches that have survived from the former three municipalities of Saint-Sixte, Merlas and La Chapelle.
The former Black Forest near the Chapelle de Merlas consists of deciduous and coniferous trees and offers a family-friendly walk.
