The Church of Saint-Pierre de Marnans is the most important surviving part of a medieval priory of Augustinian canons. The building dates from the late 12th century and has been classified as a historic monument since 1846. The church is open year-round on request; it can be visited free of charge and independently.

Nature

Marnans is part of the ZNIEFF “CHAMBARANS”, a type 2 ecological inventory area. The Chambaran area, which includes Marnans, is characterised by geological formations consisting of quartzite clay, which have no equivalent in the French Alpine regions. Wet meadows and wet heathlands in the Chambaran area, which includes Marnans, provide a habitat for many species with an Atlantic character, as well as for some mountain species at an unusual altitude.

The “Les Chambaran à vélo” cycle route passes through Marnans. It is signposted with signs indicating cycle tourist route no. 2.

The 51.8 km “Sentier de Compostelle par les Chambarans” pilgrimage route runs from Gillonnay to Montmiral via Arles and passes through Marnans. The pilgrimage route is accessible year-round.

Hiking

The “En forêt de Chambaran” route begins in Marnans. The circular hiking trail “Circuit par Mermes, sa combe et son étang” also starts here. It is 11.9 km long and takes 3 hours and 30 minutes on foot. The circular route includes 269 m of ascent and 269 m of descent and reaches a maximum altitude of 617 m.
