Le Touvet: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Château du Touvet and its gardens are classified as Monuments Historiques. The present estate largely dates back to rebuilding work commissioned by Count Pierre de Marcieu in the mid-18th century. One of the gardens’ special features is a water staircase that combines Italian influences with the characteristics of a French formal garden.

Culture and history

The Château du Touvet offers tours as well as cultural and sporting events, including concerts and theatrical tours. The Maison forte de la Frette is located on the first foothill range of the Chartreuse and consists of residential quarters and a square tower. It bears witness to medieval military architecture and was converted into a more residential estate in the 16th century.

The Maison forte de la Bayette is a former fortified house near the road from Saint-Hilaire that overlooks the village of Le Touvet. It consists of a square tower with four levels and an adjoining elongated residential wing featuring numerous historic structural elements. The Maison des Maquis du Grésivaudan is an interpretation centre with a permanent exhibition featuring portraits of members of the Resistance.

Experiences

The “Eau trouble au château” escape game is a 60-minute challenge for teams of 3 to 10 people in the interiors and gardens of the Château du Touvet. It is intended for people aged 8 and over; the ticket subsequently includes free admission to the gardens. The Château du Touvet also offers the one-hour playful château tour “Visite enchantée”.

The Maison des Maquis du Grésivaudan is open for visits every day from 8 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 by prior appointment.

Nature

The hike to the Cascade de l’Enversin begins in the village of Le Touvet and passes by the Château du Touvet, the Torrent du Bresson and the Cascade de l’Enversin. The Enversin stream plunges 30 metres before flowing into the Torrent du Bresson.

Part of the area designated as a ZNIEFF Type 1, “Boisements alluviaux de l’Isère, de Pontcharra à Villard-Bonnot”, lies in Le Touvet.

Regional special features

Small vineyard plots on the slopes of La Terrasse and Le Touvet have demonstrably been cultivated since the Middle Ages. This historic wine-growing practice in the Le Touvet area gave rise to the distinctive architectural form of the celliers or Sartos. During working hours, the buildings served as accommodation and for pressing and storing wine.

At Spiruline de Chartreuse, free tours of the facility are available during opening hours: Wednesdays from 16:00 to 18:30 and Saturdays from 09:30 to 12:30. Products are also sold on site. In July and August, Spiruline de Chartreuse offers guided tours of the facility on Wednesdays at 16:30 by prior reservation.
