Le Gua: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Fontaine Ardente is located within the municipality, below the hamlet of La Pierre, between Saint-Barthélémy and Miribel-Lanchâtre. Its flames are caused by the combustion of methane.

Nature and Trails

The La Fontaine Ardente circular hiking trail is around 5.2 kilometres long and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Sentier de la Fontaine Ardente leads downhill from the information board to the Fontaine Ardente along a single path; the route presents no particular orientation difficulties.

Another historic route is the circular trail “Chemins de la liberté: De Résistance et de Mémoire”. It starts and ends in Prélenfrey, passes through Le Gua, is around 3.5 kilometres long and takes approximately one hour. The route includes six stops in total.

The route to the Baraque des Clos follows the Sentier du périmètre, also known as the Balcon Est. The mountain hike to the Col Vert and Pas de l’Oeille also passes through Le Gua, Villard-de-Lans and Saint-Paul-de-Varces. Its landscape includes undergrowth, alpine meadows, paths along steep slopes and scree fields.

Mountain Hikes

The La montagne d’Uriol circular hike is around 13 kilometres long, involves approximately 800 metres of ascent, takes about 5 hours and 30 minutes, and is rated fairly difficult. It descends to the Champa micro-hydroelectric plant and continues to the village of Le Gua.

The municipality itself can also be explored along the D8 departmental road from Vif to the Col de l’Arzelier.

Culture and Local History

At the Le Gua site near Prélenfrey, at an altitude of 880 metres, on a rise at the foot of the Jonier stream and beneath dense vegetation, are the remains of a feudal castle dating from the 11th century. In La Ferrière, the church was completed in 1710 and only consecrated in 1732.

The Foire aux escargots dates back to an annual fair approved in 1844 and held on 13 March in the hamlet of Les Saillants. From 1967 onwards, it was moved to the following Saturday.

Bodies of Water in the Gresse Valley

The fishing area covering the bodies of water in the Gresse Valley, managed by the AAPPMA “La Gaule de la Vallée de La Gresse”, comprises 45 kilometres of first-category waterways. Trout make up the majority of the fish population there. The area extends across Le Gua, Vif, Château-Bernard, Saint-Andéol, Saint-Guillaume, Miribel-Lanchâtre and Saint-Paul de Varces.
