The Grand Laffrey Lake is a tourist and historic natural site with two water sports bases and a naturist base. Its landscaped beaches are used for relaxation and water sports.
Nature
The landscape includes the Marais de la Pivodière sector in Laffrey, with reed beds, aquatic vegetation, as well as waterfowl, fish and dragonflies. Lac Mort is an artificial lake and a hydroelectric site; swimming there is strictly prohibited.
Trails
The “Le Tour des 4 lacs” circular trail passes through Laffrey. The “Au pays des lacs de Laffrey” route also runs through the lake landscape; it is an easy, family-friendly walk offering very beautiful views of the Laffrey lakes.
The “Rando-poussette: le lac Mort” walking route follows a level dirt and gravel path described as suitable for children. The “Le tour du lac Mort” circular trail is a family-friendly loop offering exceptional views of Grenoble and the surrounding mountain ranges.
History
The Prairie de la Rencontre in Laffrey is the site where Napoleon met, on March 7, 1815, the troops sent by Louis XVIII to stop him. The prairie has a 700-metre-long footpath accessible to people with reduced mobility and to pushchairs. Along the path, six information points explain the history of the site.

There is an electric vehicle charging station in Grandes Saignes in Laffrey. From Grenoble, access to Matheysine is via the A48, followed by the N85 through Vizille and Laffrey.
