Culture

The Monument aux Morts was erected in 1919 from an 84-tonne granite block known as the “Pierre de Milliet”; it was inaugurated in 1921. The visible, shallow cup marks on the Pierre de Milliet are considered evidence of human presence since prehistoric times. The statue “La Gloire” by Emmanuel Frémiet was also added to the block.

Other buildings include the Externat Sainte-Marie, which bears the “Architecture contemporaine remarquable” label, and the Église Saint-Denis de La Verpillière, which was built from 1842 onwards in the neoclassical style. Château Coron is a residence built at the end of the 19th century, with preserved outbuildings, service buildings, stables and the groom’s living quarters.

The Jardin de ville is a large, tree-filled park near the centre of La Verpillière and has a children’s play area. The Maison Girier is a 19th-century residence associated with the Girier family. In 1998, it was restored by the municipality and now houses a municipal space with a wedding hall and exhibition area.
