Trails and landscapes
The “Immersion nature ENS Vercors Isèrois – Variante 2” route is a challenging 23.1 km traverse with a duration of six hours.
Le sentier des essences forestières is a themed trail where you can discover a wide variety of tree species in the forests of the Vercors. The starting point is at the Pied frais car park above the village of La Rivière.
The Domaine des Écouges is a 918-hectare sensitive natural area with diverse forests, pastures, rocks, cliffs, meadows and several water sources. The ENS des Écouges also has a marked 17 km-long trail with viewpoints over the Isère plain, as well as mountain streams and waterfalls.
History and culture
The Carrière de meules is a former millstone quarry discovered in 2001. Its exploitation may have continued until the 14th century.
The Château de La Rivière was restored at the end of the 19th century on the foundations of a fortified house documented since the 17th century. It was initially owned by the Pourret de Brunière family, briefly passed to the Herculais family, and was taken over by the Ferrier de Montal family from 1845 onwards.
The Church of Saint Joseph in La Rivière has exceptional stained-glass windows and was built in the 17th century.
