Culture

The Maison du Patrimoine archaeological museum in Hières-sur-Amby presents the history of the region's population from prehistoric times to the Early Middle Ages. It was established in 1985 from archaeological excavation collections from the hilltop settlement of Larina in Hières-sur-Amby.

The Maison du Patrimoine has been officially recognised as a Musée de France since 17 September 2003. It is located in a former 18th-century presbytery directly next to the village church.

The parish church of Saint-Pierre preserves two side chapels dating from the 15th century.

Landscape and nature

The Larina Plateau ENS encompasses a mosaic of different habitats, including heathland, dry grassland and oak forests. The cliffs of the Plateau de Larina ENS provide nesting sites for peregrine falcons.

The Tourbière and Lake ENS is home to remarkable biodiversity and provides an important habitat for birds and other wild species. Since 2019, a prefectural biotope protection order has protected the Tourbière de Hières and strengthened the protection of the area.

The Cascade de Verbois, a natural waterfall, is located near the climbing area.

Trails and activities

The Hières-sur-Amby climbing wall has 56 climbing routes graded from 3 to 7b; at the Pilier de la Vierge, the heights range from 22 to 80 m.

The climbing wall is accessed via the La Ruine and Mont Mort sectors at the exit of the village towards Torjonas.

A circular hiking route from the Maison du Patrimoine leads to the Larina Plateau ENS and is 5.8 km long, with 200 m of ascent. The archaeological site of Larina can be reached via a hiking trail from the Maison du Patrimoine and can be visited free of charge all year round.

The ViaRhôna cycle route runs alongside Hières-sur-Amby and provides access to the local heritage and the landscapes along the banks of the Rhône.

The trail network of Hières-sur-Amby received the PDIPR label in 2007; the PDIPR covers trails that are open to hiking on foot and, where applicable, also to horse riding.
