Nature and Trails
The fourth stage of the GR®965 leads from the Col de Marcieu to Chapareillan (Bellecombe) and is 21.3 km long; it includes 731 m of ascent and 1,121 m of descent. The Bellecombe viewpoint offers panoramic views of the Belledonne range, the Grésivaudan Valley, Mont Blanc and the surrounding Alpine mountain massifs. Mont Granier can be hiked via the Pas des Barres, Balme à Colomb or Pas de l’Alpette.
Cernon is considered an important area for speleology in the Chartreuse.
Wine and Crafts
Chapareillan is one of the five municipalities in the Chartreuse Park that cover the entire wine-growing area of the Apremont and Abymes crus. Both crus belong to the AOC family of Vins de Savoie, which has been recognised as a controlled designation of origin since 1973. The 5.6 km circular Bellecombette walk on the slopes of Chapareillan invites visitors to discover the Savoie wine vineyards; the elevation gain is 171 m.
Nature en Bulles offers tours of its soap factory in Chapareillan by prior appointment. The Nature en Bulles crafts boutique showcases work by four other local artisans.
History
The Sentier des Charbonniers leads at an altitude of more than 780 metres to at least two former charcoal-burning sites or charcoal kilns; information panels there explain charcoal production in the 1940s. The ruins of the château in Bellecombe lie along a stage of the GR®965.
Orientation
The path along the northern face of Mont Granier, the direct access to the cross and the path to the Pas de la Porte are closed for safety reasons. Accommodation is available along the GR®965 in the hamlet of Bellecombe.
