Culture and History
The Saint-Eldrade Cross stands at the entrance to Ambel. A statue and a banner of Saint Eldrade can be seen in Ambel parish church.
The tradition surrounding Saint Eldrade links Ambel, his birthplace, with the construction of a large church dedicated to the apostle Saint Peter at this location. A biographical tradition states that Saint Eldrade was born in Ambel. The Saint-Eldrade Church is considered a heritage site worth visiting in the Pays de Corps.
Hiking
The hike to Tête de la Sambut from Ambel leaves a track after four hairpin bends and follows a path that climbs up to an alpine pasture. From there, it continues directly across the meadow to Tête de la Sambut and the simple Croix de la Plaigni. The hike to Tête de la Sambut from Ambel is described as easy, with an elevation gain of 710 metres and a duration of four hours.
Routes
The “Around Sautet Lake” cycling loop follows the D217 towards Ambel and continues to Monestier-d’Ambel as far as the junction with the D537.
