Villers-Bocage: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The western part of the parish church of Saint-Georges in Villers-Bocage features elements dating from the 13th century. The chancel of the church was rebuilt in the second quarter of the 16th century. In the 18th century, a crypt housed the remains of the lords of Villers. The nave contains a Mise au Tombeau classified as a historic monument. Remains of the surrounding wall of the former château can also be seen near the church.

The present-day Château de Villers-Bocage is a large 19th-century manor house built for M. Bénézy, justice of the peace and mayor of Villers-Bocage. The Muches of Villers-Bocage are underground shelters that were expanded over the centuries and served to protect crops and livestock during devastating incursions by the Spanish army.

In the Middle Ages, Villers-Bocage was one of the centers of Gresserie; the sandstone-block quarries were largely exhausted around 1900.
