Péronne: Holiday apartments and houses

The modern building of the Historial de la Grande Guerre is located in Péronne’s medieval castle. It houses five rooms with permanent exhibitions and two audiovisual rooms covering the entire First World War, from its origins to its consequences.

The Salles des Gardes of the Historial de la Grande Guerre present local history, including the history of Péronne Castle, its region and the Battle of Mont-Saint-Quentin.

Culture

Founded in 1877, the Musée Alfred-Danicourt is now housed in four rooms on the first floor of Péronne Town Hall. Its archaeological collections are particularly renowned for the exceptional quality of their ancient glyptics, numismatics and goldsmith’s work.

History

The Porte de Bretagne was built in 1602 during the reign of Henry IV and replaced the Porte Saint-Sauveur, which had been damaged during the siege of 1536.

It is the only surviving remnant of the fortifications that surrounded old Péronne. In 1925, the Porte de Bretagne was listed as a historic monument, and its restoration followed in 1927.

Nature

The Parc du Cam has a landscaped path around the pond, lined with picnic areas, green spaces and the remains of former fortifications.

La balade Péronnaise passes through the Parc du Cam on the way back and offers a view of the Historial de la Grande Guerre.

Au Fil du Cam offers seven high-rope-course routes with varying levels of difficulty. These include a 165-metre-long zip line over the Étang du Cam. Visitors can canoe and kayak on the tranquil waters of the Étang du Cam with Au Fil du Cam.

La balade Péronnaise passes beneath the Porte de Bretagne; Les Hardines can then be seen, vegetable gardens that gradually developed through the digging of marshes and ditches.
