Nature

The Sentier de Doingt-Flamicourt begins at the former railway station of Péronne in Flamicourt and is an easy 9 km circular route with a stated duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. In Flamicourt, it runs alongside marshes; its section along a former railway line leads to the outskirts of Cologne.

Culture

In Doingt stands the menhir known as La Pierre de Gargantua, also called Menhir de Doingt and Pierre de Gargantua, between the River Cologne and the D937. The menhir dates from the Neolithic period.

The Museum of the Great War is located in the vicinity of Doingt. The Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Brelle, a monastery, is also nearby. In the wider region surrounding Doingt are the Chateau de Ham, a castle, and the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Ham, a historic site.

History

The residential settlement of Flamicourt, which originated before the First World War, developed along the road to Doingt, now Rue Joliot-Curie, and benefited from the Péronne-Flamicourt railway station. During the First World War, the settlement was largely destroyed and rebuilt according to plans by several Parisian architects.

A crucifix from the church in Doingt was found in the ruins of the church in 1917 by Reverend Hooson. A delegation from Tinwell returned the crucifix to the church in Doingt on 1 July 2023.
