Carnoy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Carnoy Military Cemetery commemorates 854 victims of the First World War from 1914 to 1918. Captain W.P. Nevill is buried there in Row E28. He was killed on 1 July 1916 during the attack between Carnoy and Montauban-de-Picardie. In connection with the attack on 1 July 1916, four footballs from the battalion were to be brought into the German trenches.
History
The Carnoy Military Cemetery was established in August 1915 by the 2nd King's Own Scottish Borderers and the 2nd King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and closed in March 1917.
The Church of Saint-Vaast in Carnoy was also shaped by the events of the First World War: it was completely destroyed during the war and rebuilt true to the original in 1925. The main altar dates from the first half of the 20th century.
Geographical Location
Carnoy-Mametz is located on the Circuit du Souvenir and near the Haute Somme valley. The Carnoy Military Cemetery is situated south of the village on the northern side of the road to Maricourt.
The cemetery is accessible by wheelchair via a side gate; however, the access route is across grass.
