The River Ancre flows through Aveluy. The centre of the village is located in a sunken valley of the Ancre running from north to south.

The municipal pond of Aveluy covers slightly more than 5 hectares and is suitable for walks. Whitefish and predatory fish can be caught at the municipal pond.
The City Stade in Aveluy is surrounded by a track suitable for running, cycling, skateboarding and inline skating. Visitors can use a picnic table at the City Stade.
History and remembrance
The Sainte-Marguerite Chapel is located on the western edge of Aveluy and served parish worship for a long time.
The village of Aveluy was completely destroyed in 1916 during the Battle of the Somme in the First World War. During the First World War, the Forest of Aveluy served as an important ammunition and supply depot for the British Army.
The Circuit du Souvenir, with its monuments to the Commonwealth soldiers who fell in the First World War, runs in the vicinity of Aveluy.
The Aveluy Communal Cemetery Extension contains 613 burials and commemorations from the First World War. The extension of Aveluy Communal Cemetery was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield. After entering Aveluy, the extension can be reached via the first right-hand turn in the village.

The Thiepval-Authuille-Aveluy circular hiking trail is 13.5 kilometres long and takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes.
Aveluy is one of the municipalities along the Véloroute n°32 de la Mémoire. The Véloroute n°32 de la Mémoire connects Amiens and Arras via Corbie and Albert along a 90-kilometre, relatively easy route. In Aveluy stands the reconstructed Saint-Fiacre Church, which is one of the attractions along the Véloroute n°32 de la Mémoire.
