The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Brebières is a Neo-Byzantine landmark in the centre of Albert and is located directly next to the Musée Somme 1916. It is also protected as a historic monument under the name Notre-Dame-de-Brébières and has been an important Marian pilgrimage site in Picardy since the 11th or 12th century.
Every year in September, around 8 September, a novena takes place at Notre-Dame de Brebières, attracting believers from all over the world. When planning their own trip, visitors may wish to rent a holiday apartment in Albert.
Culture
The Musée Somme 1916 is located 10 metres underground in an air-raid shelter from the Second World War. A 250-metre-long underground passage presents the history of the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Realistic scenes depict the daily lives of soldiers of all nationalities who fought in this area.
The Musée de l’Épopée de l’Industrie et de l’Aéronautique offers an interactive visit with 12 QR codes and narrated explanations of the most important exhibits. The “Témoins du Passé” statue trail in Albert includes several 1.80-metre-high resin statues representing the different nationalities that fought during the battles of the Somme.
Nature
Albert’s public garden features a classified arboretum, a kiosk, a waterfall, a children’s play area and a small animal park, inviting visitors to stroll and relax.
The Vélodrome is a 24-hectare natural area within the town, crossed by the Ancre, and offers opportunities for walks. Visitors can observe mallards, moorhens, swans, geese and grey herons there.

The “Albert, histoire et nature” trail passes behind the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Brebières and in front of the Musée Somme 1916. “Albert, Histoire et Nature” is a 6.5-kilometre urban trail combining nature, history and architecture, and partly following the Ancre. The trail is classified as easy.
